What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractors specialize in diagnosing and treating conditions of the neuromusculoskeletal system. After a thorough exam and additional testing/imaging (if necessary), we will begin treatment.

You may hear the word ‘chiropractor’ and associate that ‘cracking and popping bones’ and putting bones ‘back in place.’ Yet, I am here to tell you that we do so much more. We work with the body’s nervous system and that controls literally everything in your entire body, from something as basic as blinking to all sorts of complex movements.

We start out by correcting restricted joint motion after evaluating and palpating to see what needs to be adjusted. These restricted joints can also be known as a chiropractic subluxation (not a medical subluxation - will get into that in another post) or I will sometimes call them areas of neuro-articular dysfunction. A lot of the times an adjustment is successful even when we don’t here that ‘crack’ or ‘pop.’ The biggest thing to do is retest the area of restriction to see if mobility has been restored.

On the other hand, sometimes joints can be moving too much and that can also be causing you pain/other issues. Manually adjusting these areas could make things worse so we would work on stabilizing these areas with certain exercises.

To sum it up, chiropractic care can be and is for everyone when done appropriately - where it is all about getting your nervous system functioning as optimally as possible through many different forms of holistic treatment.
